Computer Simulation
Jim Sell Design uses a variety of computer modeling software systems. For complex or large-scale projects, we use a 3-D Studio Max system. For terrain models, we first create a Triangulated Irregular Network or TIN to establish a digital data structure that represents a surface. Then, we “drape” a color aerial photograph onto this surface to create a realistic appearance. To accurately predict visual impact, we generate an artificial “forest” using parameters that best replicate the “actual” forest condition. The result: an accurate representation of the terrain that we can use to test various design approaches, saving time and money while minimizing the impact on the environment.
