Braiden Drive Plaza – Colorado State University,
Fort Collins, Colorado
The Eddy and Education Buildings on the Colorado State University Campus were significantly damaged in the July, 1997 flood that inundated much of the campus. Jim Sell Design developed a plan to both protect these buildings from future flooding and to create a pedestrian plaza at the intersection of two major circulation routes. The project, partially funded by FEMA, involved the closing of Braiden Drive to vehicular traffic and the construction of walls, plazas and sidewalks. The raised Plaza area, now ringed with concentric rows of trees focuses on an existing sculpture and provides an identity to this area of the campus previously dominated by vehicular traffic.
